Over the years I have worked on small projects in this Lake Highlands home, lovingly designed and built by the homeowners in the early 1990’s. Fresh paint colors, furniture rearrangement, organization here and there, but the big freeze of 2021 caused plumbing and flooding damage which prompted a larger project to restore the kitchen, make it a bit more functional, and completely gut the primary bathroom.
We kept the marble backsplash in the kitchen, which was part of a refresh a few years prior, and paired it with lighter quartz countertops, fresh paint on all the cabinetry and a few new appliances that couldn’t be salvaged. The island was re-designed and extended which allowed for built-in waste and recycling storage. The kitchen flows into a beautiful living room with new stone tile installed around the fireplace.
The primary bathroom was prime for a refresh - out with the floral wallpaper, funky fur-downs, and oversized garden tub. Existing cabinetry was reused and reworked not only to remain within the budget, but to preserve part of their original design. The tub space was converted to a luxurious dual shower with a generous bench. The tweaked layout allowed for a proper toilet closet which was accented by lit niches. This bathroom has become one of the brightest and most lively spaces in the house!
