SWISS
Molly and Joe graciously volunteered their home to be on the well-known Swiss Avenue Historic Home Tour. Their home needed to be show-worthy and complete, but at the time they had lived in the house less than a year and not one room was fully furnished. What they did have was a large collection of antique furniture that needed to be placed sensibly throughout the home, taking into account their unique needs as a family with small children. They also wanted to show off the beautiful historic features of their 1907 4-square prairie home with gorgeous ‘Sullivanesque’ features like the wooden-framed windows, central staircase entryway, and beautiful original built-ins. During the project, the homeowners brought back the idea of a music room, as would have been typical for the time period, and purchased a graceful grand piano as a feature in one of the front rooms.
The collaboration with Jen included fresh paint in all the rooms, a new backsplash for the kitchen, procuring artwork, furniture, and rugs, and selecting new lighting for several rooms. Jen was careful to ensure the grand space was not overly-adorned or over-designed, so that the Craftsman ideology of simplicity and function would shine. The result? A beautiful home that felt unique to the couple, practical for their lifestyle, and true to the time period.
”Jen took so much stress off our shoulders. She helped us meet our deadline and have the house we dreamed of in a very short amount of time. If it wasn’t for a hard deadline and Jen’s help, we wouldn’t have finished this project for years! And what I love most is that the design has maintained perfectly as we’ve lived in it as a family.”
